In just a four-week period, Tennessee has had 324,000 new unemployment claims according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce. 74,772 workers filed claims last week. Four weeks ago only 2,702 people filed claims.
Nissan manufacturing facilities will remain closed for the most part until mid-May, due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this month, Nissan announced its manufacturing facilities be closed through the end of April. In Tennessee, the continued downtime affects 9,000 workers at Nissan’s Smyrna and Decherd facilities. Business-essential work at the plants will continue, with enhanced safety measures.
