Burn Ban in Tullahoma now includes Fireworks at least through Friday

After careful consideration and staff discussion the Tullahoma Fire Department has decided to extend the currently instituted burn ban inside the City of Tullahoma through and including Friday, July 1, 2022.

After consulting with the National Weather Service in Nashville, Tullahoma has received significantly less rainfall over the last sixty days than our normal average for this time of year. This coupled with the recently elevated temperatures have resulted in significantly dryer than normal conditions in our area. Although we have seen a few brief showers over the last couple of days, unfortunately, we have not received the greater amounts of forecasted rainfall we were hoping for.

Types of burning currently prohibited within the city limits include but are not limited to:

Brush / Limbs / Leaves (yard debris)

Campfires / Firepits

Burn Barrels

Untreated Construction Lumber

This ban is necessary to reduce the risk of resulting unintentional fires that could endanger our citizens, their property, and our first responders.

There is currently a chance of rain forecasted for this weekend. The weather conditions will be evaluated daily until we receive a significant amount of rainfall and the open burn ban is lifted.

Concerning consumer fireworks, currently, the municipal code allows for the use of fireworks July 1-3 from 10:00 AM -10:30 PM, and July 4 from 10:00 AM – 1130 PM. Unless conditions change. The current burn ban shall include the use of fireworks on Friday, July 1, 2022.

TFD will continually monitor the weather and make a determination near weeks end as to whether or not to extend or lift the burn ban. Currently scheduled community fireworks displays will be permitted to continue as scheduled with enhanced fire protection and suppression resources on-site during the events. Please continue to monitor the Tullahoma Fire Department’s social media pages and local media outlets for updates on this situation.

If we do receive the forecasted rainfall this weekend, it may improve but not eliminate the risk of unintentional fires. Should the ban be lifted for this weekend, please exercise caution when using fireworks.

Do not discharge any fireworks near structures or wood lines.

Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby to extinguish any resulting hot spot fires.

After discharge, be sure to douse any spent devices with sufficient amounts of water before discarding them into trash receptacles.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Tullahoma Fire Department at (931) 455-0936.
