Coffee County Director of Schools Issues Statement after Uptick in Countywide COVID-19 Cases

Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed 1,053 additional of COVID-19 across the state on Thursday, bringing the state to 178,140 total cases.

TDH also confirmed 13 additional deaths, bringing Tennessee up to 2,164 total deaths.

On Target News reported yesterday that numbers have been on the rise recently in Coffee County (193 on Wednesday).

We heard from Manchester City Schools concerning their procedures.

Today, Coffee County Director of Schools Dr Charles Lawson gave us information on his system’s new procedures. Lawson said, “Any time there is an indication that COVID-19 is spreading more widely in the community, it creates concern for the school district (188 on Thursday). Coffee County Schools is blessed because we have not seen a corresponding rise of cases in our student and staff populations. This is part of the reason that the school districts in Coffee County moved away from utilizing the county infection rate to make school decisions. Lawson finished by saying, “We are using school and district level data on infections and quarantines to help guide our decisions at this time.”
