Coffee County Jail Dealing with Cyber and Ransomware Attack

The Coffee County Jail became a victim of an attempted cyber-attack and ransomware demand on Monday.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and state Homeland Security cyber experts are investigating.
NewsChannel 5 reports that jail staff noticed electronic files being moved and then the entire system locked up.
A message was sent to the jail demanding payment to unlock all the files. The files include arrest, booking and sentencing records for every inmate as well as other business files.
According to the report, the jail has paper back-ups. It was added that there are also limitations in place due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
