Detailed Information on Officer-Involved Shooting in Moore County

We now have more information on the officer-involved shooting in Moore County.

On Saturday May 2nd, 2020 at 2:41 pm, Metro Moore County Deputies were called to an address on Powell Hollow Road in reference to a suicidal subject armed with a gun. When Deputies arrived, they attempted to make contact with the suspect in the home but were initially unsuccessful. While walking to check other buildings located on the property, Deputies made contact with the suspect, when a garage door suddenly opened. The subject was non-cooperative with Deputies during the interaction and closed the door shortly after. Before other personnel could arrive, the suspect exited the home and began walking in the back yard of the residence with a weapon. At 3:13 pm, the suspect fired two rounds from a handgun and soon walked into a barn located on the property and closed all the doors.

Metro Moore County EMS were staged nearby for medical needs at the scene. At 3:25 pm additional Sheriff’s Office personnel began to arrive on scene and a perimeter was established around the property to ensure the safety of nearby homes. MMC Volunteer Fire personnel along with THP and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office closed nearby roads for safety purposes.

The suspect exited the barn, still armed with the pistol, and a dialog was established by Sheriff’s Office personnel. While in the back yard, the decision was made to prevent the suspect from re-entering the home as other weapons were reportedly inside. Soon after, the suspect began walking toward a gate that lead to the home and close contact was made by Deputies. A TASER was deployed but it was ineffective. When the TASER was deployed, a MC Deputy advanced on the suspect in an attempt to subdue him in conjunction with the TASER deployment. At this time, the suspect retrieved a 9mm pistol from his waistband, fired a shot, and was then shot by the Deputy. The suspect was secured and on scene personnel immediately began to render aide. The suspect was transported via ambulance to the Tullahoma airport and flown to Vanderbilt Hospital for further treatment. At last check, the subject was in stable condition.
