Farrar Students See Birthday Cards Selected to be used by the Tullahoma Schools

Five Jack T. Farrar Elementary students received a surprise Tuesday morning as it was revealed that they had their handcrafted birthday cards chosen to be used by the district this year.

Mahliya Copeland, Marisol Gonzales, Brooklyn Fults, Rylee Ferguson and Rylee Carr were named the winners of the birthday card competition. Last month, Farrar Elementary Art Club students were asked to design birthday cards that will be sent to district employees throughout the year. After several submissions, a team of district officials, school board members and district-level middle school advisory students voted for the top five selections. On Tuesday morning, Tullahoma City Schools Director of Schools Dr. Catherine Stephens then surprised those winners.

“You could see the excitement and smiles on their faces when they learned that their cards had been selected. It was absolutely precious, and these cards are fantastic,” Dr. Stephens said. “We can’t wait to send these out to our staff members because they are wonderful and will add joy to each person’s birthday. Also, it allows us to highlight some of our student’s artistic creations in a unique way.”

After having their cards chosen, the five Farrar Elementary students will be honored at the upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 16 Tullahoma City School Board of Education meeting. Each child will additionally receive a large print version of the card they designed to take home with them.

“We can’t wait to celebrate these students and their hard work at the next Board meeting,” Dr. Stephens said. “I really can’t wait for everybody to see these cards in person and the creativeness that each one of these students displayed. It’s going to be a great celebration.”

The Tuesday, Nov. 16 Tullahoma City School Board of Education meeting is slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
