Firemen Quit City of Monteagle

City of Monteagle firemen have quit in protest due to Fire Chief Mike Holmes resigning from the department Monday night. Holmes is the former part time Grundy County deputy that was recently of criminally negligent homicide in a 2017 shooting death case.
15 firemen resigned on Monday night.
WTVC-TV reports that Monteagle Mayor David Sampley says firefighters from Sewanee will be covering any calls Monteagle gets for the time being.
A jury in Grundy County convicted Holmes on February 5th of criminally negligent homicide, saying Holmes’ gunshot was what killed 20-year-old Shelby Comer in 2017 – not a drug overdose, as had been argued by his defense.
His sentencing date is April 3.
