New data on firearm background checks by the TBI’s Tennessee Instant Check System show a record-setting number of transactions in 2020. The spike represents a 53 percent increase over 2019.
According to the TBI in 2019, there were 485,702 transactions while in 2020 there were over 740,580 transactions.
The TBI says Tennessee’s spike outpaced the national average which was 40 percent.
According to the TBI’s instant check system, there have been over 64 thousand transactions in 2021 so far.
