Manchester City Schools Announce the Passing of Longtime Educator and Coach

Statement from City School Officials:

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we at Westwood Middle School and Manchester City Schools share news that Mr. Doug Roorda passed away in the last 24 hours. Although those are the only details we have at this time, we send our condolences to all of Mr. Roorda’s family, friends and former students. Mr. Roorda was a dedicated coach and teacher, with over 30 years of service to our community. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

If you feel that your student needs support in processing this news over the next few days, WMS staff will be available to speak with your student with your permission. You can contact Lou Paschall, our School Social Worker, at lpaschall@k12mcs.net or Crissy Geary, our School Counselor, at cgeary@k12mcs.net to arrange for one of them to speak with your student. Our Principal, Julie Miller, is also available at jmiller7@k12mcs.net as is our Assistant Principal Jim Dobson at jdobson@k12mcs.net. Mrs. Paschall and Mrs. Geary can also provide crisis hotline numbers to you and names of community providers that may be able to assist your student in processing any grief reactions to this news. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your student during this sad time.

Knott can be heard on 93.9 The Duck, The Rooster 101.5 and Whiskey Country 105.1 and 95.9. Lucky has done play-by-play for over 3,445 sports events on Radio & TV. He also served 4 years as the Public Information Officer for the Coffee Co. Sheriff's Dept. and taught Radio/TV for 6 years at Grundy County High School.
