Coffee County Red Raiders defeated Grundy County 13-0 on Friday as four pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Braden Brown struck out Jacob Dixon to finish off the game.
Nolan Jernigan led Coffee County to victory by driving in four runs. Jernigan went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jernigan drove in runs on a single in the first, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and a double in the sixth.
In the first inning, Red Raiders got their offense started. Coffee County scored one run when Jernigan singled.
Coffee County tallied five runs in the sixth inning. Coffee County Red Raiders big inning was driven by doubles by Jernigan and Brown and a single by Hayden Hullett.
One bright spot for Grundy County was a single by Jarom Huntley in the third inning.
Wyatt Nugent led the Red Raiders to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The righthander allowed four hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero. Brown and Aiden Robertson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Dalyn Pickett took the loss for Grundy County. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing 11 hits and 13 runs while striking out five.
Charlie Pierce started the game for Coffee County. The pitcher went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out two.
Coffee County Red Raiders tallied 11 hits. Brown, Brady Nugent, Griffin Meeker, and Jernigan all had multiple hits for Coffee County. Jernigan, Meeker, Nugent, and Brown all had two hits to lead Coffee County. Brown led the Red Raiders with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.
