Franklin County and Huntland Claim District Soccer Titles

Franklin County soccer claimed their third straight district championship and Huntland soccer their first Thursday night.

Baylor Russel and Osiris Rodriguez each scored twice as the Rebelettes totaled three in the second half to top Warren County 4-1 in the District 6-AAA championship match at Franklin County High School.

Franklin County had 8 players earn All-District honors. Kara McDaniel, Libby Vincent, Leah Smith and Mariah Shull were named to the all-district first team and Haley Campbell, Brenna Carroll, Bella Bravo and Baylor Russell were named to the all-district second team. Head coach Kent Bean was named District Coach of the Year, Osiris Rodriguez earned Freshman of the Year in the district and Ella Masters was named the District Forward of the Year.

The Rebelettes will host Rea County in the Region 3-AAA semifinals Tuesday at 7:00.

In Huntland the Lady Hornets scored four times in the final 20 minutes to cap off a dominate performance to claim the District 10-A championship 5-0 over Culleoka. Hazel Reed Piper Cox each scored twice to pace the offense for Huntland.

Logan McLennan, Megan Tipps, Summer Johnson, Zaria Ford and Ryley Brannon were named to the All-District team and Raegan Johnson, Kathryn Reed, McLennan and Johnson were named to the All-Tournament team. Hazel Reed was named the District MVP for the regular season and the tournament.

The Lady Hornets will play Hickman County in the Region 5-A semifinals Tuesday, however because their homefield (the outfield of the baseball field) does not meet the specifications set by the TSSAA they won’t be playing at Huntland. A location and time for the region semifinal has not yet been announced.

Will is a Middle Tennessee native having been born and raised in Winchester. His love of radio began as a child listening to local stations on the way to school or while falling asleep at night. After High School, where he was active in student media, he attended the University of Tennessee majoring in Journalism and Electronic Media while covering sports for the campus radio station. He then moved into the business professionally as a board op/producer for Cumulus of Knoxville and the Vol Network. His radio journey then took him to Louisiana where he was the lead producer for ESPN New Orleans. After returning home to Winchester, he spent several years broadcasting local sports for stations in Franklin County before joining the Bowman Family. When he’s not at the station, Will enjoys spending time with his wife Shaina and his two fur babies (Toulouse and Belle), cheering on the Vols, Preds and Saints and in the kitchen or behind the grill trying out new recipes.
