Miscues Cost Raiders at Cascade

The Moore County Raiders fell to Cascade on the Road 29-14 Friday night in the season opener.

The Raiders, a much younger unit compared to last years squad, struggled to find their footing early turning the ball over on their first two drives of the game with a pair of interceptions. However, Cascade couldn’t capitalize on the early Moore County mistakes as they turned the ball over on downs on consecutive possessions as well.

The Raiders broke through first late in the first quarter on a pick six by Dawson White. Cascade answered right back with a scoring drive capped by an Elijah Arnold touchdown pass to Taylor Dowell with just over a minute left in the 1st quarter.

Moore County had a chance to score late in the 2nd quarter, but the pass was just out of the reach of the receiver as time expired on the half.

White scampered 73 yards early in the 3rd to give the Raiders a 14-7 lead. That turned out to be their final lead of the night as Cascade cashed in a blocked punt and a shanked punt to tie the game then take the lead in the fourth. Connor Huie iced the game with a 43 yard run in the closing minutes of the 4th and after the Raiders turned it over on downs Cascade ran out the clock for the 29-14 win.

For his efforts on the night Dawson White was named the Riddle Agency Player of the Game.
