Moore County baseball falls to Cannon County

Moore County Blue Raiders fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 12-9 loss to Cannon County on Friday. Cannon County scored on a double by Jordan Timmons, a walk by Zach Basham, a walk by Alex Hill, a walk by Ethan Powell, a walk by Gaige Turner, a walk by Timmons, a walk by Kyler Bryson, a walk by Chase Martin, and a double by Braxton Alexander in the second inning. 

Despite the loss, Moore County Blue Raiders did collect five hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Cannon County had seven hits on the way to victory. 

Cannon County pulled away for good with 11 runs in the second inning. In the second Timmons doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Alexander was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Basham drew a walk, scoring one run, Hill drew a walk, scoring one run, Powell drew a walk, scoring one run, Turner drew a walk, scoring one run, Timmons drew a walk, scoring one run, Bryson drew a walk, scoring one run, Martin drew a walk, scoring one run, and Alexander doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. 

Moore County Blue Raiders notched five runs in the fifth inning. Chris Martin and Austin Kirby all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. 

Basham led the Cannon County to victory on the mound. The hurler went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Timmons threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. 

Dustin Thomas took the loss for Moore County. Thomas went one and one-third innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out two. 

Moore County tallied one home run on the day. Kirby went for the long ball in the fifth inning. 

Kirby went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Moore County in hits. 

Cannon County had seven hits in the game. Timmons, Aj Armstrong, and Turner each collected multiple hits for Cannon County.
