Shelbyville baseball drops heartbreaker to Riverdale

It came down to the last play, but Shelbyville Golden Eagles was on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Riverdale on Saturday. The game was tied at five with Riverdale batting in the bottom of the seventh when Merwin singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. 

Shelbyville Golden Eagles took an early lead in the second inning. Aiden Edwards drove in four when Edwards homered. 

Riverdale knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bamberg hit a solo homer. 

Shelbyville notched five runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by Raine Sims and a home run by Edwards. 

Pippen earned the victory on the mound for Riverdale. The fireballer went one inning, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking zero. Deck entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. 

Edwards took the loss for Shelbyville. The pitcher lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and one run while walking zero.

Marquis Wilson started the game for Shelbyville. The righty allowed five hits and four runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one Puckett started the game for Riverdale. The bulldog lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and five runs while striking out four 

Shelbyville tallied one home run on the day. Edwards put one out in the second inning. 

Edwards led Shelbyville Golden Eagles with three hits in four at bats. 

Riverdale had ten hits in the game. Bamberg, Puckett, and Deck each racked up multiple hits for Riverdale. Riverdale didn’t commit a single error in the field. Bamberg had 14 chances in the field, the most on the team.
