Wildcats season ends with pair of state tournament losses Wednesday

The season ended for Tullahoma baseball Wednesday as they dropped a pair of games in the Class 3A State Tournament at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro.

Covington 9 Tullahoma 2

In game one of the day the Cats fell behind early to a high powered Covington team and couldn’t recover. The Chargers scored two in the first on a two RBI triple by Brennan Forbess.

Tullahoma scored two in the bottom of the second on a Two RBI Single by Ashton Dodd to pull within a run at 3-2 but that was as close as they would get. Covington pitcher Braden Gover would hold the Wildcats off the board the rest of the game.

The Chargers plated three more runs in the 4th on three hits and a fielding error by the cats to push the lead back out to four at 6-2. They’d tack on three more runs over the final three fames to put the game away and send Tullahoma into an elimination game and rematch with Tennessee High.

Tennessee 4 Tullahoma 3

The second game of the day began the same way the first did for the cats as Tennessee scored three runs in the top of the second on an RBI single from Ryan Henard and 2 RBI Double by Braden Wilhoit to grab an early lead.

Tullahoma got on the board in the bottom of the third when DJ Dillehay scored on a Vikings error.

Tennessee pushed the lead right back to three in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Ashton Leonard.

Tullahoma trimmed the lead to 4-3 with back to back RBI Singles from Jayron Morris and Ragan Tomlin in the fifth but Vikings pitcher Rylan Henard who went the distance slammed the door shut over the final two frames to secure the victory.

Tullahoma closes 2022 27-14 overall the District 8-3A tournament and Region 4-3A Champions.
