Bedford County dignitaries gathered on Friday, April 8, at Shelbyville Police Department on Lane Parkway to celebrate the annual Pinwheels for Prevention display organized by Junior’s House Inc. in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month. Each of the 50 pinwheels represents 10 children served by Junior’s House over the past year.
Bedford County Mayor Chad Graham, Shelbyville Police Chief Jan Phillips, and representatives of the Department of Children’s Services, Juvenile Court, Shelbyville Police Department, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, and Junior’s House were in attendance.
Junior’s House, which has a satellite location in Shelbyville, is a child advocacy center representing the interests of children who have been victims of abuse. A child advocacy center provides a safe, friendly place at which victims of suspected abuse can be interviewed by trained professionals, providing accurate information to the appropriate parties with the least possible trauma or disruption for the young victim.
