Raider Sports coming back to Rooster 101.5

Written by freelance reporter Wayne Thomas

The man that many fans consider “The Voice” of the Red Raiders will return to the airwaves on Coffee County Athletics this summer. Lucky Knott has announced Raider sports for the last 24 years. Local listeners have relied on him to give them an accurate account of the game. Locally owned Rooster 101.5 FM will broadcast select Raider baseball games as well as select Lady Raiders’ softball this year.
Bowman Media General Manager Joe Abraham noted the effort to return WFTZ-FM back to its home in Manchester. He explained that while there have been some snags – moving the operation of the station back to its home on Hillsboro Boulevard remains a priority. Abraham stated that major damage to the building forced the company to move the operation of the station to Tullahoma as they work through the repair and renovation process.
Lucky Knott is no stranger to the broadcast booth for sports as he has 37 years of experience in the broadcasting industry and is now the manager of The Rooster.
Knott, who started announcing Raider sports on the old Fantasy 101.5, said he is happy and excited to be back announcing Raider sports on The Rooster. Knott has broadcasted over 3,500 games in multiple states during his career including middle school, high school, college as well as professional sports.
Knott stated that he is so appreciative of the administration at Coffee County High School to allow him to announce play by play for Red Raider Athletics. Knott said that it brings him great joy to talk with local-student athletes and about their amazing accomplishments.
The Rooster 101.5 will be not only broadcast Raider sports – but also what is happening at the school. The Red Raider Report will air every Saturday morning at 8 a.m. This report will be with students, as well as Coffee County High School faculty. Knott said that there will be discussions about the fine arts, band, clubs, CTE and other outstanding school groups. Knott noted that the new program began on Feb. 2. “People have asked for Raider sports to return to the Rooster and we are excited to provide local listeners our coverage”, stated Abraham.
Raider sports returns to the airwaves with play by play on March 9 on the Rooster. The Rooster is the only full-power FM signal in Coffee County. Listeners can also tune-in online at Rooster1015.com and on the Rooster Smartphone App.
