Tennessee has Highest Sales Tax, but Remember No State Income Tax

Sales taxes are charged in two ways in Tennessee. First the state side which is 7 percent and then the local tax. The combined average local and state sales tax rate in Tennessee is 9.53 percent. Tennessee has the highest combined rate of any state, according to a new analysis from the Tax Foundation.
The maximum local sales tax rate in Tennessee is 2.75 percent, according to the study.
The bright side for Tennessee residents is that there is no state income tax; that many states implement.
