A new study from Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents reveals both school and domestic-related crimes decreased in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
While domestic crimes only decreased slightly at about 2.6% year over year, school crimes dropped a significant 59% from 2018 to 2020, largely due to the pandemic and shutdowns.
TBI said 69,385 offenses were domestic in nature last year, with 45,854 of those reported as simple assault. “Boyfriend/girlfriend” was the most frequent relationship with domestic crimes.
