Warning from Law Enforcement concerning Phone Scams

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department has received several calls from citizens getting phone calls from an individual identifying himself as a Coffee County Deputy. This subject states to people he contacts that they have fines or fees associated with missing court, having warrants, or other activities that need paying off or an arrest warrant will be issued. This is not legitimate.

Credible calls from law enforcement will never solicit payment over the phone. People are being asked to obtain “Green Dot” or “Moneypak” cards.

If you have any questions, please call your local law enforcement agency. One of the numbers making these calls is 931-295-6334.

The Sheriff’s Department has also had reports of local businesses receiving calls from someone identifying themself as a member of the sheriff’s department asking for information on clients in reference to an investigation.

If you have any questions regarding the identity of someone calling and identifying themselves as a member of law enforcement, get their name, rank and badge number and lookup the number to the agency yourself and call and ask to speak with that individual.
