Bedford County Highway Department Receives $15,000 Safety Grant

Tennessee Risk Management Trust has presented a $15,000 safety grant to Bedford County Highway Department. According to Highway Superintendent Mark Clanton, the department will use the funds for safety equipment such as barricades, cones, and truck safety lighting.

The presentation was made on Tuesday during an organizational meeting of a new county government safety committee. Bedford County Human Resources Director Shanna Boyette was asked by County Mayor Chad Graham to organize the new committee, which plans to adopt formal bylaws and select officers at a future meeting.

“We’re thrilled to receive these funds from TRMT,” said Clanton. “We believe in keeping both our employees and the public safe, and this grant is a big help.”

Tennessee Risk Management Trust is a member-owned insurance trust, created in 1987, which offers affordable insurance services to public entities, such as city and county governments, in Tennessee. During the organizational meeting, Mark Bilyeu of the trust discussed the importance of safety in all government operations, whether they are obvious-risk emergency services, office operations, or something else. Boyette also discussed safety issues, including the need to remain safe in the COVID pandemic.
