Black Bear Roams around Coffee County

Photos provided by Stan and Lee Rogers

A black bear paid a visit to Coffee County on Saturday and Sunday. The bear was spotted near Raider Academy and Black Rifle Coffee on Saturday night and Regalwood Subdivision in Manchester on Sunday. There have been reports of the bear in other areas as well.

Biologists say it is common for yearlings to leave their mothers in June to search for a place of their own. Adult males are out and about, too. They travel far and wide for a mate.

If you spot the bear, Do not run. Do not play dead. Do not try to approach the bear. Don’t try to take a selfie with the bear, and just respect it. Keep your distance.

A black bear has also been spotted in Bedford County.
