The Coffee County Middle Raiders defeated the Page Panthers 2-0 on Wednesday in the sectional round of the state playoffs.
Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Leiton Yancer picked up the win. Yancer lasted six innings, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out six and walking one. Audie Nicoll recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Raiders.
Kasen Morrison, Jaxon Pruitt, Boone Floyd, and Yancer each collected one hit to lead Coffee County Middle.
The Raiders are just one win away from earning a berth in the TMSAA State Tournament. They will play at Woodland Middle in Green Hill on Saturday. Coffee Middle is 17-2 on the season.
Coffee Middle Lady Raiders are also one win away from the TMSAA State Tournament as they beat Page Middle 9-5 on Wednesday.
CCMS Lady Raiders pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. Kaylee Buckley singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run; Maggie Montgomery singled, scoring one run; and Madi Scott singled to score another run. Briley Jernigan added an RBI single, and Bailey Hale grounded out to score the final run of the big inning.
Scott got the start for the Lady Raiders and pitched the complete game for the win.
CCMS racked up 15 hits. Montgomery had three; Taylor McBride, Haale, Jernigan, and Paige Chilton all had two each.
The 14-8-1 Lady Raiders will play at home on Friday night as they host Warren County Middle.
