Coffee County Sweeps Road Trip to Shelbyville

The Coffee County Lady Raiders had to hold on late, while the Red Raiders pulled away in the fourth to secure district victories Monday night in Shelbyville.

The Lady Raiders tuned the ball over 18 times which allowed the Eaglettes who had been blown out W 57-26 and 63-29 in the first two meetings of the season to make a game of it Monday night. However, down the stretch the Lady Raiders converted their free throw opportunities to grab their 21st straight victory. Elli Chumley made one of two with 38 seconds remaining to give Coffee County a one point lead. Then Olivia Vinson made both of her foul shots with 7.9 seconds left to put the Lady Raiders up three. Shelbyville had 5.3 second to run a final play after advancing the ball to half court and taking a timeout but could only muster a lay up at the horn to make the final score 47-46 in favor of Coffee County.

Chloe Gannon led the Lady Raiders with a game high 17 points and was named the Sir Pizza player of the game.

With the victory Coffee County improves to 24-3 overall and 8-0 in District 6-4A. Having already wrapped up the regular season district championship they close out 6-4A play at Franklin County tonight in a girls only contest at 6:00.

In the boys contest the Red Raiders and Golden Eagles were deadlocked at 25 at the half but Coffee County doubled up Shelbyville in the third quartet 16-8 and then opened the final frame on a 5-0 run to close out the game for good. The Golden Eagles never got closer than 10 points in the fourth as the Red raiders won their third straight 56-42.

Dayne Crosslin led the charge offensively with 16 and was named the Sir Pizza Player of the Game. Connor Shemwell added in 12 for Coffee County.

The Red Raiders improved to 18-8 overall and closed district play at 7-2. With Franklin County’s win at Warren County Monday Coffee County will more than likely finish second in 6-4A as the Rebels own the head to head tie breaker having won 2 of the three matchups this season.

Both Coffee County teams wrap up the regular season Friday in a cross county showdown at Tullahoma. You can hear the game on 93.9 The Duck with pregame coverage beginning at 5:50!
