Decision due soon on start of TSSAA High School Football season

With the extension by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee of a state of emergency due to COVID-19 cases on Monday until August 29, the state’s athletic association, the TSSAA, faces a tough call on when to start practice for the fall sports, including high school football. Bernard Childress, TSSAA Executive DIrector, said late Monday that a plan would “likely” be announced Tuesday, June 30.

The TSSAA Board of Control is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss the classification process. This is the final weak of the dead period, and prep football teams are planning to start getting ready for the 2020 season on Monday July 6 with preseason workouts.
