The federal government has delayed its enforcement of REAL ID by two years, giving residents more time to get ID cards that comply with the security requirements.
The Department of Homeland Security announced Monday that the full enforcement date was pushed from May 3, 2023, to May 7, 2025.
Under the change, federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, will still accept state ID cards and other forms of identification that don’t comply with REAL ID until that date.
