Former Times Sports Editor dies Saturday at 94

Clay Mills “Buck” Johnson, former Chattanooga Times sports editor, died Saturday at age 94.

Johnson was a Navy veteran of World War II, a teacher and coach in the Hamilton County School system, and a popular sports editor and reporter who wrote a column entitled “The Buck Stops Here.” His hometown of Soddy-Daisy, TN, inducted him into the Soddy-Daisy Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also an inductee into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, and the Amateur Softball Association National Hall of Honor.

Johnson covered UT Football, the Atlanta Braves, and 15 Masters Golf Tournaments over the 17 years he worked at the newspaper.
