On Saturday, at approximately 11:30 AM, a Franklin County Sheriff’s Department correctional officer attempted to move a female inmate, 46-year-old Carla Maria Stringer of Manchester, TN, from the front booking area to the general female population.
According to a filed report, Officer Gwendolyn Huntoon advised inmate Stringer to enter the restroom at the end of the jail corridor for a final search before placing her into the general jail population. The report says the officer’s search revealed four (4) different substances (1 white powder substance/one powder gray substance/one brown crystal substance/one brown rock substance).
A struggle ensued, and Stringer grabbed the bag of gray powder from the Huntoon, causing it to rupture and blow into the officer’s face. Other correctional officers were able to regain control of Stringer.
The correctional officer was taken to the jail medical office for medical intervention, and Narcan was administered to the officer. An ambulance was called to transport the Huntoon to the hospital for a medical examination.
Inmate Stringer admitted that the substance she was fighting for was fentanyl. Criminal charges will be filed.
