Grundy Co. Director of Schools makes Surprising Comment and then Agrees to Allow SROs in Schools and Close another Elementary

Grundy County Director of Schools Dr. Clint Durley said in a school board meeting last week that he had “other things to do than worrying about our schools being secure.” Durley apologized after the comment during a heated discussion about having school resource officers or SROs at every school.

The contract between Grundy County Schools and the sheriff’s office remained unsigned until Friday when Sheriff Heath Gunter and Durley came to an agreement.

Also, the Grundy County Board of Education made the determination Thursday that Coalmont Elementary will be closed. Palmer Elementary School was closed prior to this year’s school term.

This requires the shift of students and staff to other elementary schools in the district.
