The season came to a close for the Coffee County Lady Raiders (29-4) on Monday night at “The Patch” in Manchester.
Coffee County held the lead for nearly around 29 of 32 of 32 minutes of regulation. McMinn County grabbed a 41-39 lead only to see the Lady Raiders tie the score at 41 with little over 2 minutes to go.
The Lady Cherokees then froze the ball until their leading scorer Peytyn Oliver drove to bucket for a shot, but she missed it and the game headed to overtime.
In overtime the game went back and forth but McMinn County would pull ahead and stayed in front as they defeated Coffee County 53-51.
Chole Gannon was the Sir Pizza Player of the Game as she led the Lady Raiders with 16 points followed by Olivia Vinson with 14.
Two outstanding seniors, Elli Chumley and Kiya Ferrell wrapped up their high school basketball careers on Monday night. Chumley had 5 points and Ferrell finished with 4.
Tuesday night the Coffee County boys will have their shot at extending its season as they host Franklin County in a semifinal game at approximately 7:30-7:45 PM. This is the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The winner will play for the Region 3-4A championship on Thursday night against the winner of Walker Valley/McMinn County and are guaranteed a sectional game on Monday.
