A McMinnville man is facing numerous charges including evading arrest and reckless driving following a high speed chase Friday.
According to Major Jason Walker of the Warren Co. Sheriffs Dept., Deputy Jared Jacobs assisted the McMinnville Police Dept. in the pursuit to stop 44 year old Corey Pleasant, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Gold Xterra for equipment violations Friday afternoon.
After Lt. Ben Cantrell halted the pursuit on Vervilla Road near Gillespie Road, Jacobs deployed stop sticks near Wheeler and Viola Road. The spikes managed to slow the vehicle, later coming to a stop in a corn field on Viola Road. Pleasant fled the vehicle and Jacobs pursued on foot. Pleasant was clutching a backpack when Jacobs tasered him ending the pursuit.
Pleasant would not give up and engaged in a fight with Jacobs who was trying to apprehend him. Pleasant continued to resist arrest and even grabbed a taser when it fell from Jacobs’ holster and struck him in the midsection. Jacobs drew his sidearm, ordering Pleasant to drop it to which he complied and Pleasant was taken into custody.
Pleasant faces numerous charges including evading arrest, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
