How Local State Representatives Voted in the Expulsion of Two Tennessee Lawmakers

On Thursday, the state House expelled two Democratic lawmakers, Justin Jones, D-Nashville, and Justin Pearson, D-Memphis, for breaking House rules and leading a gun-reform protest from the chamber’s floor.

Rep. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, survived expulsion by one vote from the Tennessee General Assembly.

Area representatives voting to oust Jones and Pearson were Rep. Rush Bricken, R-Tullahoma, Rep. Pat Marsh, R-Shelbyville, and Rep. Iris Rudder, R-Winchester.

Rudder and Marsh voted to expel Johnson, with Bricken voting in favor of Johnson.

Nashville’s metro council is likely to reappoint Justin Jones to the seat during a specially called Monday meeting. The Shelby County Commission plans to announce soon when it will meet to fill the vacancy left by Pearson’s expulsion. Commissioners can also reinstall Pearson, who is from Memphis.
