Illegal Snacks Seized in Decherd

The Decherd Police Department wants to raise awareness to all parents and citizens that may not be aware of a growing issue.

At first look officers could have thought that some items looked like a normal bag of chips during a traffic stop on December 15, but they later seized the items.

During a search of the vehicle these items at first glance appeared to be normal name brand snacks, Cheetos and Fritos. A closer look at the packaging revealed these items contained 600mg of THC edibles. These items are illegal to possess in the state of Tennessee.

In a statement, Decherd Police said it is their fear that items like these might end up around children or teenagers that may not give these a second look and mistake them as snacks and accidentally ingest them and possibly cause health issues. The police department is asking parents to please educate their children on this important issue.
