Johnson returns to NASCAR action Sunday; Harvick leads standings

Jimmie Johnson will return from a coronavirus isolation on Sunday to race in NASCAR’s Cup Series at Kentucky Speedway. It is his first race in two weeks after missing the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend. Johnson and his wife Chandra both tested positive on July 3, while his children were both negative. He was required by NASCAR to test negative twice before the officials at NASCAR would allow him to return. Johnson sits 15th in the Cup Series standings, just inside the provisional 16-driver playoff field. He received a medical waiver for the postseason if he meets all other criteria for eligibility.

Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick leads the standings for the season so far by 85 points over Chase Elliott. He and Denny Hamlin have dominated the field over the last five races, with Harvick winning three and Hamlin two, and both of them finishing 1-2 in four of those. The Quaker State 400 will get the green flag at 1:30 p.m. Central Time on Sunday.
