The Tullahoma Lady Wildcats battled the defending Class 3A State champs tooth and nail for three quarters Monday night, but ultimately the powerful post presence from Upperman’s Abigail Johnson was too much to overcome and the Lady Cats season ended with a 52-38 loss in the Region 4-3A Semifinals at Tennessee Tech’s Hooper Eblen Center in Cookeville.
Tullahoma got off to a hot start once again scoring the game’s first 5 points before Upperman battled back to lead 14-7 after one. The Lady Cats won the second quarter 12-9 to trail by just four at halftime 23-19. The Lady Bees tried to pull away in the third quarter but the Lady Cats kept battling back thanks to some timely baskets from Morgan Car and Lilly Melton and trailed by just three 31-28 heading to the fourth. In the final frame Upperman’s Senior Post Abigail Johnson took over the game allowing the Lady Bees to pull away for the 14 point win.
Johnson led all scorers with 23 points, with Jayla Cobb adding in 13 for Upperman. Morgan Carr led Tullahoma with 15 points in her final game as a Lady Cat. Lilly Melton added in 10 points. Tullahoma closes the season 18-12 overall.
