Survive and advance is the theme of high school basketball teams this time of year and the Coffee County Lady Raiders did just that on Friday night.
The Ooltewah Lady Owls gave the Lay Raiders a good test in quarterfinals of the Region 3-4A tournament in Manchester.
Coffee County for most of the game would lead by double digits only to see Ooltewah fight back to cut the advantage to as low as 4 points. Then came the 4th quarter when the Lady Raiders were able to pull away for an impressive 65-42 victory.
Elli Chumley, Coffee County’s only senior starter was outstanding all night with her offensive play. Elli not only led the Lady Raiders with 14 points but also dished out multiple assists and had several rebounds. Chumley was named the Sir Pizza Player of the Game.
Coming off the bench to add 11 was Kiya Ferrell and Junior guard Jalie Ruehling added 10, all coming in the crucial 2nd half. Olivia Vinson and Chloe Gannon added 9 each to help Coffee County’s well-balanced offense.
The Lady Raiders will host McMinn County in semi-finals on Monday night at 7:30pm. Hear the game on The Rooster 101.5 FM, rooster1015.com or the Rooster 101.5 app.
