Law Enforcement issues Scam Warning

Law enforcement officials are warning everyone to be aware that another scam is going round.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) reports that citizens have been receiving phone calls from people posing as members of the Social Security Administration. These callers are telling the recipients that their social security number has been used and/or compromised at a location and they are needing to verify or get information from them. DO NOT GIVE INFORMATION TO THE PEOPLE CALLING YOU.

CCSD says anytime you receive calls from someone advising they are from a specific agency and you feel uncomfortable or uneasy about the call, obtain their name and position and tell them you will call them back. Look up the number for yourself and call them back on the main number of the establishment and ask for verification if that person works there.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact your local sheriff’s department or city police.
