- I was born and raised, along with my younger brothers and sister, in Manchester. My parents were the late Jim and Matilda Norman. I was married to Mildred Pryor Norman and we had four children: Virginia, Deborah, Priscilla, and Lonnie, Jr., and two granddaughters: Brandi Sails and Kandi Guest. Mildred passed away in 2016.
- I retired from Arnold Engineering Development Complex after working there 40 plus years. My work experience at AEDC as a Supervisor at the ETF provided me with leadership skills, vision, and business solutions. I learned the importance of building working relationships at the local, state, and federal levels, and most importantly, the need for fiscal prudence. Currently, I sit on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Duck River Development Agency, which Governor Haslam appointed me in 2011 and reappointed by Governor Lee in 2019. I reside on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Municipal League. I’m a member of the Coffee County E-911 Board of Directors as well as a member of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. I currently serve on the Advisory Board for the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center, a division of the Tennessee Department of Human Services, and on the nomination committee for Duck River Electric. I’m a member of the Main Street Church of Christ, located in Manchester.
- With the current state of the economy, we have a tremendous economic challenge in front of us and it calls for experienced and stable leadership. I, along with my fellow Alderman, city staff and the community, have worked through challenging times to keep Manchester moving forward and will continue to build upon the progress we have all made together.
- It is an honor to serve as the Mayor of the City of Manchester. I have been actively involved in the community all my life. I was raised to be of help to others and to treat everyone the same. The life lessons my parents taught me have been my guide in everything I do. As a lifelong resident of Manchester, TN, my commitment and dedication to the city remains constant.
- Challenges come with every job and position. When challenges arise and difficult decisions have to be made, I’m able to pull from my understanding of government and the ability to listen to the concerns of others to make difficult decisions that are focused on the best outcome for the city of Manchester and its residents.
- I want Manchester to continue to be a place where everyone feels welcome. I want everyone to know my door is and will always remain open for each and every person in our community. Manchester is at its best when everyone works together for the greater good of the community.
- Since taking office, the reserves have more than doubled, all while lowering the tax rate, and making significant investments into public safety, infrastructure, and schools. It is my goal to continue to ensure the city remains fiscally secure. As mayor, I have proven myself as a leader, an ear of understanding and a voice of calm during times of uncertainty. I, Lonnie Norman, humbly and respectfully ask for your vote and support for Mayor of the City of Manchester.
