The Motlow Bucks have released their 2022-23 men’s basketball schedule, highlighted by a stretch of seven out of eight home games during December and January. The Bucks play at Copperweld Arena inside Nisbett Center on Motlow’s Moore County campus, and admission is free.
Practice began on Oct. 1 for the Bucks, and Head Coach Arthur Latham is more than ready to get his team together on the practice court and prepare for the Nov. 1 season opener at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama.
“I’m excited about the mix we have in the locker room of returning sophomores, transfers, and first-year players,” said Latham. “We should be in contention for an opportunity to play for a TCCAA championship, and I believe our challenging early non-conference schedule will prepare us well for conference play.”
Following the opener against Calhoun, Motlow will travel to Morristown for a pair of non-conference, neutral-site games at Walters State Community College. The Bucks play Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (NC) on Friday, Nov. 4, and Gaston College (NC) on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The season-opening road trip continues for one more game, with Motlow heading to Harriman to open TCCAA Conference play against Roane State on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The home opener is also a conference game with Volunteer State visiting on Saturday, Nov. 12. Chattanooga State comes to Copperweld Arena the following Wednesday. Then it is back on the road for the Bucks at Jackson State on Nov. 19.
All TCCAA conference games are played on Wednesday and Saturday. Wednesdays are at 7:30 p.m. local time, while Saturday games start at 4 p.m. local time.
“It will be great to finally play on our home floor after so many road games,” added Latham. “We invite basketball fans throughout the area to support these young men as they fulfill their dream of playing college basketball. Nothing beats a great home court advantage, and the fans create that advantage.”
The Bucks will travel to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and play three games in the Thanksgiving Classic at Three Rivers Community College on Nov. 24, 25 & 26. The final conference game before the holiday break is on the road at Dyersburg State on Dec. 3.
The TCCAA/Region VII Tournament will be in Harriman at Roane State from Mar. 3-7. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Mar. 20-25 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Bucks will begin their preseason scrimmages early, traveling to the University of West Georgia for the Corry Black Hoops JUCO/PREP Jamboree on Oct. 2. Motlow will also travel to Fulton, MS, for the Itawamba Community College Jamboree on Oct. 21.
