The Office of Inspector General (OIG), in a joint effort with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force Program, say 40-year old William Weed was charged with one count of TennCare fraud, a class D felony.
Investigators allege that Weed received oxymorphone pills from a co-conspirator in order to settle a debt. The pills were obtained using TennCare as payment.
If convicted, Weed could face penalties of up to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
Through the OIG Cash for Tips Program established by the Legislature, Tennesseans can get cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions. Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982, toll-free or by logging on to www.tn.gov/oig/ and following the prompts that read “Report TennCare Fraud.”
