Despite an outstanding outing from Jack Leiter the Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team fell to NC State 1-0 in a winner’s bracket game at the College World Series Monday night in Omaha, Nebraska.
Leiter struck out 15 in 8 innings, allowing just 4 hits and walking 1. However, he’d take the loss as Terrell Tatum’s 5th inning solo home run proved to be enough for the wolfpack to steal a victory. NC State’s Sam Highfill and Evan Justice allowed just 2 Vandy hits and struck out 9 in the combined shutout.
The Commodores will now try to stave off elimination Wednesday when they face Stanford at 6:00 p.m.
Tennessee faces elimination Tuesday afternoon as they face Texas at 1:00 p.m. In Tuesday’s night cap Mississippi state and Virginia face off in a winner’s bracket game at 6:00 p.m.
All games from the College World Series air on the ESPN family of networks.
