New Coffee County Animal Shelter Breaks Ground

The ground was officially broken on Thursday afternoon on the new Coffee County Animal Shelter that will open sometime in 2024.

Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny told On Target News that the county contributed $500,000 toward the shelter to be built at 3292 Hillsboro Hwy. He added that another $1 million in donations have been pledged. The mayor said Tom and Karen Rice with CFC Recycling donated the land valued at $290,000. St. John Engineering is the architect and will design the new complex.

The new Coffee County Animal Shelter will have a capacity of fifty dogs. This includes a quarantined area and adoptable dogs.

Mayor Matheny thanked the County Commission for its work and approval of the new shelter. He said a special thank you goes to Animal Control Director Craig Boyd for keeping the program alive and ready for growth.
