Oakland names former Franklin County Athlete as New Girls’ Basketball Coach

Oakland has named a familiar name to lead its girl’s basketball team.

The DNJ reports Assistant coach Jessica Southern was promoted to head coach Monday.

Southern played softball and basketball at Franklin County before going to Bryan College where she also played basketball and softball. She got her first head coaching job at Shelbyville where she coached two seasons before joining Campbell’s staff as an assistant three years ago.

Southern replaces Shelby Campbell, who stepped down July 7 to pursue interests outside of teaching/coaching.

The Lady Patriots made the TSSAA Class 4-A state tournament in March.
