Coffee County Mayor Proposes Moratorium on Major Subdivision Reviews
February 22, 2025 - Coffee County, TN
In a press release dated Saturday, February 22, 2025, Coffee County Mayor Dennis Hunt announced his plan to propose a 90-day moratorium on all major subdivision plat reviews. The proposal will be presented to the Coffee County Regional Planning Commission on February 25, 2025, and subsequently brought before the Coffee County Legislative Body on March 11, 2025, regardless of the Planning Commission’s recommendation.
Mayor Hunt stated that rural residents of Coffee County have expressed concerns about inadequate representation in the approval processes for major subdivisions within the Rural Area District. He emphasized the need to review the prerequisites and minimum requirements for such developments and implement changes if necessary. Any proposed modifications recommended by the Planning Commission would then require approval from the elected representatives of the Rural Areas of Coffee County.
Hunt noted that recent large-scale developments have left many voters feeling disenfranchised in the decision-making process. He underscored the importance of ensuring that residents have a voice in how these developments are approved and regulated.
Further updates on this proposal will be provided as the review process progresses.
