Coffee County Residents Offered Free Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Opportunity

MANCHESTER, TN (April 21, 2025) – Coffee County Rural Solid Waste is providing a free opportunity for residents to safely dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste. The collection event will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 2180 Murfreesboro Highway in Manchester.
Household hazardous waste is defined as corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive materials commonly found in homes, cars, and gardens that are unwanted or unusable. This event offers a responsible way to get rid of these items, preventing potential harm to the environment and public health.
Residents can bring a variety of items, including household cleaners (drain openers, oven cleaners, wood cleaners, metal polishes, toilet bowl cleaners, disinfectants), home maintenance chemicals (paint thinner, wood preservatives, paint strippers & removers, adhesives), miscellaneous items (fingernail polish remover, pool chemicals, photo processing chemicals, medicines & drugs, reactive materials, aerosols, compressed gas, mercury thermostats, mercury thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, needles/sharps - in a puncture-proof container, and lead), lawn and garden chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers), and automotive products (fuel additives, grease & rust solvents, air conditioning refrigerants, starter fluids, body putty, coolants, and carburetor/fuel injector cleaners). Important Restrictions: No medical or infectious waste (except needles and sharps in puncture-proof containers), explosives, ammunition, radioactive waste (including smoke detectors), or empty containers will be accepted. Waste from non-household sources such as businesses, schools, farms, churches, etc., will not be accepted without a prior appointment. Additionally, oil-based paint and electronics are accepted every Thursday from 7 AM to 3 PM at the Solid Waste Dept., 2180 Murfreesboro Highway, Manchester, TN 37355. For inquiries about these items, please call 931-723-5159.
