The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department has received calls regarding a phone scam that is happening again. The callers identify themselves as members of the Sheriff’s Dept and advise victims that they have an active warrant for missing court or grand jury duty. The callers state that if the victim pays a fee this will satisfy the warrant, and they will not be arrested. The phone scammers are requesting to pay via prepaid credit card or other forms of payment. The Department says is a scam and no one in the department will be contacting you by phone and requesting payment for anything. You should not give the scammers any information, hang up and call your local law enforcement agency immediately. If possible, please note the number in which you receive the call. Some of these callers are showing up from numbers associated with the Sheriff’s office. If you or anyone you know have fallen victim to this please notify your local law enforcement.
