Duck River Electric Linemen Deploy to Virginia for Storm Aid

Statement from Duck River Electric:

Early this morning, four Duck River Electric linemen left for Altavista, VA, to assist the Western District of Southside Electric Cooperative as Winter Storm Harlow is forecasted to produce a two-day mixture of wet snow, ice, and freezing rain. All of these are expected to cause widespread outages in Southside’s service area which was hit hard by last month’s Winter Storm Blair that left over 27,000 (or almost half) of their members without power.

We appreciate the willingness and commitment of our linemen to assist other electric utilities facing emergencies through the mutual aid agreement. This is just one way that DREMC honors the guiding principle: cooperation among cooperatives.

We equally appreciate the rest of our DREMC family who are available to assist members with routine service requests and if the heavy rain causes issues here.

Please keep all the line crews, contractors, and emergency personnel in your thoughts and prayers as they work through the impacts of Winter Storm Harlow.
