Madi Goad, Tullahoma’s all-time softball home run queen, hit a grand slam in the second inningto help carry the Lady Cats to a three-inning, 16-0 demolition of visiting District 8-AAA rival Central Magnet Monday night.
The game was originally scheduled for last week but was postponed due to rain.
Tullahoma (13-6, 7-2) rebounded nicely from its loss to Giles Co. last week.
The Lady Cats hostnon-district South Pittsburg on Tuesday, travel to Cascade on Thursday, and host Marion
County Friday at 2 p.m. Friday’s game will be live on 93.9 The Duck.
The Lady Cats scored three runs in the first, eight in the second inning, and five more in the
third to activate the three-inning, 15-run mercy rule.
Amaya Sharp (12-3) gave up only one hit and one walk in shutting out the Lady Tigers. Goad
was 2-3, adding a double to her grand slam and driving in five runs. Kylie Holt and Maggie
Lynch each added two hits for the home team.
Goad is second in the state with 14 home runs, third in slugging percentage, and No. 1 in
Tennessee with 55 runs batted in.
Central Magnet Ends Tullahoma Winning Streak
The Central Magnet Tigers rolled into Grider Stadium and upset the Tullahoma Wildcats 2-0
Monday night to end Tullahoma’s 18-game winning streak and hand the Wildcats their first
District 8-AAA loss.
Tullahoma (18-7, 6-1) hopes to exact revenge Tuesday when it travels to Central Magnet (10-
10, 3-4) to complete the two-game district series. It is the final district series between the two
because the Tigers will not be in Tullahoma’s new district (12-AAA) for at least the next two
years.
The Wildcats struggled to hit the baseball with runners on base, stranding two in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
Tullahoma had a runner at second base with less than two outs in four of the seven
innings, but couldn’t drive anyone in.
Baylan Tuten (3-3) went the distance on the mound for the Cats, allowing only four hits with 13
strikeouts. Uncharacteristically, the senior lefthander hit three Central Magnet batters and
issued a pair of walks. Tuten went 4-4 at the plate with a double and three singles and was
named the Owens Provisions and Apparel Player of the Game.
The visitors scored their runs in the third inning. Tuten hit fellow pitcher Tate Morris, then walked No. 9 hitter Benson Reavis. A bunt single by Braylon Dowell loaded the bases, and Mitchell Coons and John Roth followed with RBI singles.
Two runs were enough for Central Magnet starting pitcher Morris, who scattered six hits with
two walks and three strikeouts.
Tullahoma will host Coffee County on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Listen live on 93.9 The Duck.
