MANCHESTER, TN – The Manchester Police Department is addressing concerns regarding reports of individuals being followed or stalked at local businesses. Authorities are urging residents to report such incidents directly to law enforcement rather than relying solely on social media.
The department emphasized that public safety is a top priority and outlined several steps individuals should take if they feel they are being followed or stalked:
Report It Immediately – If you suspect you are being followed or feel unsafe, contact 911 or local law enforcement while the incident is occurring. Prompt reporting enables officers to respond quickly and investigate effectively.
Stay in a Safe, Public Area – If inside a business, notify an employee or manager and request assistance. Avoid walking alone to your vehicle if you feel uneasy.
Provide Identifying Details – If possible, take note of the individual’s physical description, clothing, and any vehicles involved, including make, model, and license plate number.
Save Evidence – If it is safe, document the incident with photos or videos. Record the time, location, and any interactions that occur. Security footage from businesses can also assist in investigations.
File an Official Report – Even if the situation has passed, filing a report helps law enforcement track patterns of suspicious behavior and take appropriate action.
Manchester police stress the importance of contacting authorities rather than solely sharing experiences online. While social media can raise awareness, it does not substitute for an official report, which enables law enforcement to identify suspects and prevent similar incidents.
Residents who witness or experience suspicious activity are encouraged to contact the Manchester Police Department at (931) 728-2991. In an emergency, dial 911.
“Your safety matters,” the department stated. “We are here to respond to all reported cases.”
Authorities urge the community to stay alert and prioritize direct reporting to help keep Manchester safe.
