Shelbyville Soars Past Warren County with Fourth-Quarter Surge

Despite a spirited comeback effort in the second quarter by the Warren County Lady Pioneers, the Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes fought a hard-earned 50-43 victory in a thrilling basketball showdown Friday night in McMinnville, TN.


The game opened with Shelbyville dominating much of the first quarter, but a clutch two-point basket in the final moments gave Warren County a slim 11-9 edge heading into the second quarter.


The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle as the Golden Eaglettes kept pace with the scrappy Lady Pioneers. Despite Shelbyville’s efforts, Warren County managed to hold onto a razor-thin 17-16 lead at halftime, setting the stage for an intense second half.


The third quarter proved to be just as competitive, with both teams trading baskets and momentum swinging with every play. Warren County maintained their slight advantage, clinging to a 34-33 lead as the final quarter approached. But that’s when the tide turned.


In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eaglettes found their rhythm. Their defense locked down the Lady Pioneers, stifling their scoring opportunities, while Shelbyville’s offense came alive. The Golden Eaglettes surged ahead, capitalizing on their momentum to secure a 50-43 victory.


Lanaya Young was the star of the night, leading Shelbyville with a stellar 24-point performance and earning the Watson Metals Player of the Game.


Jaz Western contributed nine key points, while Janiya Leslie added five crucial points during pivotal moments, helping seal the win for the Golden Eaglettes. Shelbyville will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21, as they travel to Lincoln County, with the girl's game tipping off at 6 P.M. and the boy's contest to follow at 7:30 P.M.
